As the U.S. is working to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the country as quickly as possible, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) has released new guidelines for the use of the vaccine with cancer patients. The NCCN® studied the effects of the coronavirus on cancer patients and recommends that all people who are currently receiving cancer treatments get the vaccine. However, their study has concluded that special attention should be given to the timing of the vaccination, to insure the most effective results.
The effectiveness of the vaccine among cancer and transplant patients is still unknown. Even after vaccination, this group should continue to wear masks, avoid crowds, and follow other recommendations for reducing the spread of COVID-19.
