Team Member Spotlight: Jennifer Day

Some of us have dedicated our careers to the cancer field, some of us have dedicated our careers to helping people use technology to improve their lives and some of us just like helping people. We’re really proud of our work and our team here at Navigating Cancer.

Meet Jennifer Day, a key member of our Design Team:

Briefly describe your role:

I’m the UI (User Interface) designer for our clinic-facing product Navigating Care. My goal is to make the user’s interaction as streamlined as possible — so they can optimize their workflow, and coordinate with their care team for increased efficiency. My work involves a lot of cross-team (and clinic) collaboration to understand and interpret the user’s needs. From there I build design prototypes, interaction studies, and work towards defining a cohesive look-and-feel across the application.

Where do you find inspiration?

From all over (but typically not when I’m staring at a screen.) Nature, books, music, art. I also like to shop salvage/thrift and find inspiration in reinventing old things.

What’s your favorite technology and why?

Real-time traffic data. Though I’m a native to the area, I’m happy to let Google Maps guide me through our current traffic reality.

What’s your favorite app and why?

Clue — because the UI is nearly flawless, and it’s not cluttered with unnecessary features.

Star Trek or Star Wars?

The very first Star Wars (and movie theatre experience) left a profound childhood memory.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not at work?

Ride my bike/snowboard in the summer/winter. I also tend to lose all sense of time gardening, and stay out past dark thinking “I’ll pull just one more weed…”

Little-known fact about you that would surprise people?

In the past I was a big traveler, and once felt perfectly comfortable camping on a deserted island, or sleeping in my car.
