From Darkness Into Light
When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer at a relatively young age, I was shocked. I ate healthy foods, exercised regularly, and my relatives had long, healthy life spans.
I had no reason to think I would get cancer.
My initial reaction to diagnosis was that of despair and hopelessness. I endured chemotherapy, radiation, and a preventive double mastectomy with reconstruction (DIEP flap).
These were dark times.
Now, though, I reflect back and have used my cancer experience to help others advocate for their own needs. It makes me feel good to offer advice on navigating the medical system.
