Navigating Cancer.com, Inc. (Navigating Cancer) considers the privacy and security of user information an important component of the service offered at its website, www.navigatingcancer.com (Site). The following information explains how Navigating Cancer collects and uses information obtained from its registered users in connection with services available at the Site (taken together, the Service).
What this Policy Covers.
This Policy covers Navigating Cancer’s treatment of personal information that Navigating Cancer gathers when you are on the Site and when you use the Service. Also, this Policy covers Navigating Cancer’s treatment of personal information that Navigating Cancer’s business partners share with Navigating Cancer. This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that Navigating Cancer does not own or control, or to individuals that Navigating Cancer does not employ or manage.
Personal Information Collected and How We Use It.
In order to provide registered users with a friendly, customized, and efficient experience, we collect personal information of several types. We only collect personal information that is relevant to the purpose of the Service. We do not use this information in a way that is incompatible with the purpose for which it has been collected unless you have expressly authorized such use.
A) Information You Provide to Us:
We may receive and store information you enter on the Site or otherwise provide to us, including information that is added to the Site as a result of back-office integration with your physician’s clinical systems. You can choose not to provide us with (or prevent us from receiving) certain personal information, but this will prevent your access to special features that comprise the Service. The personal information you provide may be used for such purposes as responding to your requests for certain information and products and services, customizing the advertising and content you see, and communicating with you about the Service.
- Registration: In order for you to use certain features of the Service, you may be required to complete a registration form. As part of this registration form, you must provide your name and your email address.
- Health Records: As a registered member of Navigating Cancer, you can create and manage your health records and monitor and record your daily health information and disease symptoms and/or side effects. All of the Health Record pages on Navigating Cancer use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to protect your personal information. Examples of the types of information stored in your Navigating Cancer health records include:
- Personal information including your name, address and contact information
- Treatments including surgeries, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, complementary or alternative medicines
- Prescription medications, dietary supplements, herbal remedies, or other medications
- Care team member’s contact information such as your doctor’s name, specialty, address, email and phone numbers
- Care facility information, such as names, addresses and phone numbers
- Daily Health Tracker information, including self-reported details about your general health and well being, as well as self-reported disease symptoms and/or side effects of treatment
- Medical appointment dates, times and physician information
B) Automatic Information:
We may receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with the Site. Navigating Cancer may automatically receive and record certain “traffic data” on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, Navigating Cancer cookie information, and the page you requested. Navigating Cancer uses this traffic data to help diagnose problems with its server, analyze trends and administer the website.
Generally, our service may automatically collect usage information, such as the numbers and frequency of visitors to our website and its components. This data is only used in the aggregate, that is, as a statistical measure, and not in a manner that would identify you personally. This type of collective data enables us to determine how often users use parts of the Site, so we can make the website appealing to as many users as possible. In addition, we may provide statistical information, not information about you personally, to our partners about how our users, collectively, use our website. We share this type of statistical data so that our partners also understand how often people use their areas and our website, so that they, too, may provide you with an optimal Web experience.
Many companies offer programs that help you to visit websites anonymously. While Navigating Cancer will not be able to provide you with a personalized experience if we cannot recognize you, we want you to be aware that these programs are available.
C) E-mail Communications:
We may receive a confirmation when you open an e-mail from Navigating Cancer if your computer supports this type of program, in order to help us make e-mails more interesting and helpful. We may also send out emails with news or promotions. If you do not want to receive e-mail or other mail from us, please notify us by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and include sufficient information for us to identify your account.
D) Information from Other Sources:
In order for us to develop a more personalized service offering, we may receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information.
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we may transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems to recognize your browser and tell us how and when pages in our website are visited and by how many people. Navigating Cancer cookies do not collect personal information, and we do not combine information collected through cookies with other personal information to tell us who you are or what your email address is.
Sharing of Information
We will neither rent nor sell your personal information to anyone without your consent. We will not share your personal information except in the following circumstances:
Navigating Cancer may disclose personal information when you have provided consent to do so.
Protection of Navigating Cancer and Others:
Navigating Cancer may transfer personal information to any successor to all or substantially all of its business or assets that concern the Service.
Aggregation of de-identified information and statistics:
Navigating Cancer and its commercial partners may use de-identified and or aggregated information gathered from your profile and your usage of the Site and related statistics in order to improve the services provided through the Site, for certain research and analysis including clinical medical research and/or reporting and for other commercial purposes. De-identified information does not include personally identifiable information relating to Registered Users such as name, email address, or address, but may include gender, height, weight, postal code, and medical information such as diagnosis and stage of illness. Aggregated information is information from multiple users that cannot be “re-identified”, or associated with any individual user or account.
Information you share with your authorized representatives:
You should be aware that by providing third parties with your login and password, you may inadvertently enable unauthorized persons to review, modify or delete your health records. Navigating Cancer cannot monitor use of your login and password by your authorized representatives or any persons with whom you or they share your information.
Information You Share With the Public:
The Site will allow you to post information into a public forum. If you post personal information into a public forum, the public will have access to such information. Please note, once you make a public posting through the Website, you may not be able to change or remove it.
We employ other companies and people to perform tasks on our behalf and need to share your information with them to provide products or services to you. Our agents are obligated to meet the same level of privacy protection with respect to your personal data as we do. Unless we tell you differently, Navigating Cancer’s agents do not have any right to use the personal information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.

Your Navigating Cancer account information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. You are responsible to protect against unauthorized access to your account and to your computer by logging off once you have finished using a shared computer.
We use industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) software to protect the security of your personal information during transmission, which encrypts all of the information you input.
Only Navigating Cancer employees who need personal information to perform a specific job (for example, a customer service representative or clinical specialist) are granted access to it. All of our employees are kept up to date on our privacy and security practices.
