Active surveillance, or watchful waiting as it used to be called, has the potential to become a viable “treatment” option for prostate cancer among older men as well as younger men with well-defined tumors and/or low Gleason stages. In Europe it has been widely used with good effect. However, some information suggests that it has not been widely adopted in the U.S. because of low insurance reimbursement rates for the on-going testing and physician monitoring. What’s your thoughts on this subject?
