Soda Drinks Increase Risk of Pancreatic Cancer
Soda pop has been popular for so many years, yet now it faces a full force rejection. Dentists have warned against the damage done to teeth, and now researchers warn of an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. The cause is the high content of sugar in soda, which is not an issue with fruit juice due to the nutrients and fiber that fruit also contains. A study done at the University of Minnesota states that drinking an average of five sodas a week nearly doubles your risk of getting pancreatic cancer. The refreshing beverage that once was so appealing seems to have lost its fizz. As for myself, I think I’ll stick with water.

Tips & Suggestions
Eating on your treatment days
Avoid eating your favorite foods on treatment days. This way, you can enjoy the foods, and they won't remind you of something upsetting.
What is pancreatic cancer?
Pancreatic cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the pancreas. The pancreas is a gland about 6 inches long that is shaped like a thin pear lying on its side. The wider end of the pancreas is called the head, the middle section is called the body, and the narrow end is called the tail. The pancreas lies behind the stomach and in front of the spine.
The pancreas has two main jobs in the body:
- To produce juices that help digest (break down) food.
- To produce hormones, such as insulin and glucagon, that help control blood sugar levels. Both of these hormones help the body use and store the energy it gets from food.
The digestive juices are produced by exocrine pancreas cells and the hormones are produced by endocrine pancreas cells. About 95% of pancreatic cancers begin in exocrine cells.
